i swam for an hour today. comfortably tired :)

wrote this a while back and xuan reminded me of it, due to her comment of a squirrel yesterday so i thought i would just share it...

Acorns & Stones

the little squirrel, bushy-tailed
bright-eyed and confused
handed her acorn heart to you
(she didn’t know what else to do,
she didn’t quite know what was going on,
her acorn heart, it went thumpthumpthump!
and she was quite sure, it wasn’t an ordinary jump)

she thought she'd be honest;
unused to pretences and this funny little feeling.

But the little squirrel,
knew deep down that giving up her acorn to you;
her heart of hearts,
wasn't enough.

so when a stone came back in return
its polished exterior, so grey and pretty
and still and closed-
she was silent (in her pain)
but not at all, surprised (though the entire forest had been telling her otherwise)

the little squirrel understands life
and all, she wants back now,
is her fallen acorn heart.
Can she get it back, please?

un moment à se rappeler
. a moment to remember.

"What's in a name?
That which we call
a rose
By any other word
would smell as sweet."

-Romeo and Juliet
