we watched segments of the rise to evil- hitler during history today. it ended the day with a rather depressing note, if only i wasn't so sensitive to music and their haunting melodies, i'd probably feel better. i'm a bit of an audio person, visual images don't affect me half as much as emotive language ( literature) or moving harmonies.. then i have words or melodies floating in wisps in my mind, entangling themselves with my normally calm and logical state of mind. haha :P
i read oscar wilde's 'the nightingale and the red rose'(or is it the other way around?) today, courtesy of beth. :) it was beautiful in the heartbreaking kind of way, it's imagery so entrancing and it's ending so fitting in tragic's context. for those of you who have read it, you would know that the art student eventually scorned the nightingale's sacrifice and was all in all, a hypocrite. a young idealist who thought highly of himself but was after all, a human wrought with ironies and contradictions.
reflecting upon this, i questioned myself too. am i being pretenious in liking this piece of work, in enjoying classic music, literature, the arts etecera?
well, the answer is no. because like what i said today during haven rehearsal to someone, " i know this sounds idealistic and a tad too passionate, but you should join choir, you should be in choir because of the genuine want to make music, to share the joy of music, to try to comprehend and understand the intricacies and beauty of music together."
if we can't even live life without this kind of unbridled passion and love for something/someone, then what's life?
it's the one afraid of loving, that never seems to live...
