frazzled like the telephone wire
our communication registers barely a beep.
there's an awkward silence in between us,
concealed (unsuccessfully) by :
garbled words, desperate stabs, meaningless babble.
we try.
but our eyes betray the truth.
conversation can fill the silence.
but it can't reach the emptiness in our hearts.
